The Union Cabinet has approved an increase in the EPFO wage ceiling from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000, expanding social security coverage to more salaried employees.
The change is expected to bring over 51 lakh additional employees under EPFO coverage. Eligible workers earning up to ₹25,000 will be able to access benefits including EPF savings, pension and insurance coverage.
This marks the first increase in the EPFO wage ceiling since 2014, significantly widening the reach of employment-linked social security in India.
