Kadiyam Could Soon Get a Dedicated Floriculture Research Institute
Andhra Pradesh is planning a dedicated Floriculture Research Institute at Kadiyam to strengthen research, innovation and development in one of the State’s best-known nursery-growing regions.
Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh has proposed establishing the institute at Kadiyam, with a formal proposal to be submitted to both the State and Central governments.
Research Support for Kadiyam’s Nursery Industry
The proposed institute would focus on research and development related to flowers and nurseries, providing scientific and technical support to the region’s large floriculture sector.
Kadiyam and its surrounding areas have developed into an important nursery cluster along the banks of the Godavari. According to the report, nearly 300 varieties of ornamental flowering species are cultivated across more than 11,500 hectares in the region.
The nursery belt extends across four mandals in East Godavari district - Kadiyam, Atreyapuram, Alamuru and Mandapeta.
Strengthening a Major Floriculture Cluster
A dedicated research institute could help the nursery sector through improved cultivation techniques, development of flower varieties, plant research and adoption of modern technologies.
The proposal was announced as the Minister interacted with representatives of the Sir Arthur Cotton Nursery Farmers Association.
With Kadiyam already widely recognised for its nurseries and ornamental plants, the proposed institute could further strengthen the region’s position as an important floriculture and horticulture hub in Andhra Pradesh.
