Andhra Pradesh Plans ₹200 Crore Underground Drainage Project for Kakinada
Kakinada is set for a major upgrade to its urban infrastructure, with the Andhra Pradesh government planning to seek ₹200 crore from the Centre for developing an underground drainage network in the city.
The State government plans to approach the Union government for ₹200 crore under the Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) to strengthen underground drainage facilities across Kakinada.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana announced the proposal while reviewing ongoing and proposed development works in the city.
Focus on Kakinada’s Urban Infrastructure
The proposed underground drainage project is expected to strengthen Kakinada’s basic civic infrastructure and improve the city’s drainage network as it continues to develop.
During the review, the Minister was accompanied by Kakinada City MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Municipal Corporation Commissioner N.V.V. Satyanarayana. Officials discussed the progress of existing works as well as upcoming projects planned for the city.
The ₹200-crore funding proposal will be submitted to the Centre under the UIDF, which supports urban infrastructure development.
If funding is approved, the project would represent another significant investment in upgrading Kakinada’s essential municipal infrastructure.
